Hammel got all 3 outs in the 14th.

Rays closer Troy Percival opened that 14th by giving up a double to Jacoby Ellsbury. Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz followed with walks, loading the bases with nobody out.

Out came Rays manager Joe Maddon, and in came another reliever -- righty Jason Hammel.

Kevin Youkilis greeted him with a sacrifice fly to right, making it a 4-2 game, and moving Pedroia to third. But Jason Bay (0-for-7) struck out and Alex Cora flew out to center, and the game was over after five hours and two minutes.

I understand his loyalty to his country, but now that he has re-injured his ankle, I have to question his decision. Are we going to be in for another season of up & down (mostly down) play due to his unwillingness to admit that he is seriously injured? At this rate, how many years does he have left? 3? 2? If he had rested his ankle over the summer and taken it easy in preseason, there is no doubt he would have ready to go by November 1. Now, he'll likely rest until January. For $52 million over 6 years, I think the Spurs deserve better than that. Like Yao Ming, and so many others (42 NBA players played in the Olympics this year) whose size and/or style of play will already limit the number of years they'll be able to play at a high level, Manu Ginobili needs to realize that if he doesn't stop playing international ball, the end of his career is fast approaching.

That said, I still wear #20 to nearly every home game. Tim might be our superstar, but the Spurs won't win another championship without a healthy Manu.

Wow, this is the work editing possible. There are so many sentences above which are grammatically flawed that a number of them are fully incomprehensible. Start with the headline and try to figure out what the hell this is about. I have to admit, I can't figure it out and I'm very conversant with Olson and all of the figures involved.
