CHI CUBS 7, MILWAUKEE 4

MESA, Arizona Milton Bradley left in the first inning with mild tightness in his left quad as Joey Gathright and Jake Fox made their claim for spots on the roster in the Chicago Cubs 7-4 win over the the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.

Bradley, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract in January, drew a walk in the first inning before being lifted for a pinch runner. He is expected to be back in the lineup this
weekend.

Gathright, who is aiming for a role as the fourth outfielder, went 3-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base while batting leadoff.

Fox, who is fighting for a spot as a backup first baseman-outfielder, hit a three-run homer off Seth McClung in the third inning and added a single in three at-bats.

Sean Marshall started for the Cubs and allowed a run and four hits in two innings.

Yovani Gallardo allowed one hit and walked a pair in a scoreless frame for the Brewers, who got a solo homer from Mike Cameron and a pair of doubles from J.J. Hardy.

KANSAS CITY 7, TEXAS 2

SURPRISE, Arizona Newcomer Coco Crisp homered and Ross Gload drove in three runs to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 7-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Thursday.

Crisp, who was acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox over the winter, hit a solo blast in the third inning and added a single in three at-bats.

Gload broke open a 4-2 game in the seventh with a bases-loaded triple off lefthander Eddie Guardado and John Buck added a solo blast for the Royals.

Kevin Millwood pitched a pair of scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing one hit, before yielding to prospect Derek Holland, who allowed both home runs in the third.

Josh Hamilton hit his second homer of the spring for the Rangers.

SEATTLE 4, SAN DIEGO 4 (10 INNINGS)

PEORIA, Arizona Felix Hernandez allowed two runs and four hits in two innings as the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres battled to a 4-4 draw in 10 innings on Thursday.

Hernandez did not record a strikeout and allowed a two-run homer to Henry Blanco in the second inning.

Chris Young countered for the Padres and tossed one perfect frame before yielding to Justin Hampson, who surrendered three runs – two earned – and three hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Journeyman Chris Shelton, who is gunning for a role as a backup first baseman on the Mariners, homered off Hampson.

ARIZONA 15, CLEVELAND 9

GOODYEAR, Arizona Conor Jackson went 2-for-2 with a pair runs scored and an RBI for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who scored six runs in the seventh inning in a 15-9 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.

Arizona starter Dan Haren gave up a run in two frames while Doug Davis was roughed up to the tune of six runs – five earned – on six hits and a walk in just 1 1/3 innings.

Ryan Roberts and Luke Carlin each had two hits and two RBI as the Diamondbacks smacked 19 hits and took advantage of four errors by the Indians.

A key piece in the trade involving C.C. Sabathia last season, Matt LaPorta homered off Haren in the second for the Indians.

Aaron Laffey allowed an unearned run and two hits in two innings while walking one and striking out one. Non-roster invitees Jack Cassel and Tomo Ohka combined to surrender 10 runs, six earned, on 14 hits in just 2 2/3 innings.

LA DODGERS 16, SAN FRANCISCO 7

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona Russell Martin had a home run and three RBI to lead an offensive onslaught Thursday in the Los Angeles Dodgers 16-7 win over the San Francisco Giants.

The two-time All-Star catcher also hit a double and scored a pair of runs for the Dodgers, who pounded out 17 hits and had 12 different players score runs.

Los Angeles also got three hits and three RBI from Xavier Paul while Valentino Pascucci and Chin-lung Hu went deep as well.

In his second stint with the Dodgers, Randy Wolf worked two perfect innings in his first appearance since signing a one-year deal worth $5 million earlier this month.

Juan Uribe had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Rowand hit a homer for the Giants.

CHI WHITE SOX 4, COLORADO 1

TUCSON, Arizona Gavin Floyd allowed one run in two innings of work as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Colorado Rockies, 4-1, on Thursday.

Corky Miller had three hits and an RBI and Wilson Betemit also drove in a run with a double for the White Sox, who scored all four runs in the opening three innings.

Colorado starter Jason Hirsh was battered for three runs and six hits in two innings of work to take the loss.

Huston Street, who was one of three players sent to the Oakland Athletics on November 12 in exchange for All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday, allowed a run on three hits in one inning of action.

LA ANGELS 3, OAKLAND 1

TEMPE, Arizona Rookie Jordan Walden struck out three in two scoreless innings and Reggie Willits drove in a run as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim posted a 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Cactus League action on Thursday.

A 12th-round pick in 2006, Walden allowed two hits and did not walk a batter. Bobby Abreu, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal earlier this month, went 0-for-2.

Alberto Rosario and Kevin Ramos drove in a run apiece for the Angels, who banged out 10 hits.

Jack Cust homered for the Athletics. Oakland starter Sean Gallagher allowed three hits in two scoreless frames, striking out two and walking one.
