The Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday righthander Grant Balfour from Class AAA Durham of the International League.

The 30-year-old Balfour was 1-0 with a sparkling 0.38 ERA and in 15 knockout with the Bulls. He allowed just one run and five hits in 23 2/3 batting while salient out 39 and mobile 10.

In a matching move, the Rays optioned to Durham infielder Ben Zobrist, who was 4-for-15 without a home run or RBI in seven meet.

Tampa Bay (32-22), which is in major place in the American League East Division, made the moves after Thursdays 5-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

The Kansas City Royals optioned fundamental Billy Butler to Class AAA Omaha on Thursday.

Butler was batting .263 with one home run and 18 RBI in 53 sports for Kansas City this time. He hit .292 with eight and 52 RBI in 92 last year.

Taking Butlers schedule spot will be infielder Mike Aviles, contract was purchased from Omaha. Aviles was hitting .338 with 10 homers and 42 RBI for Omaha.

The Royals also placed righthander Leo Nunez with the 15-day disabled list with a torn might in his true side and recalled lefthander Neal Musser from Omaha.

Nunez has gone 3-1 as a this season, posting a 1.71 ERA in 21 innings.
